WEEKEND FLYING PROSPECTS: AUGUST 30-31 2008

A low-pressure system and associated cold front, together with a weakening high-pressure ridge in the Tasman, will direct strong N-NW winds over Victoria on Saturday. The front will traverse the state during Sunday producing a vigorous W-SW airstream in its wake.

Saturday August 30: Expect a cool, cloudy day with strong northerly winds and rain periods developing late morning. Max temp approx. 14 deg C.

Sunday August 31: The cold front should clear the western district during the early morning leaving mainly cloudy conditions with a few showers, clearing later. Winds will turn westerly at 10-15 kts after the front. Maximum temperature expected around 13 deg C, with cloudbase about 4,000 feet. Potential for Grampians wave during the afternoon.

The medium-term outlook looks promising, with prospects for wave on Monday and early Tuesday.
