Our Vegetables

Our climate is far from the best in which to grow vegetables all of the year round but we do have more successes than failures.

We have this growing season (2006/2007) planted a large variety of salad type greens and different types of winter vegetables to see which are the ones best suited for our climate and culinary needs.

As an example I planted five different types of broccoli and we have selected two that we will grow from now on.

I do not have the time to either list or spend too much time on getting the individual vegetable pages up and running but if you would like to know more about what we grow email me and I will endevour to reply.

Because of the heat and the many frosts we had up until October I have resorted to growing many of my seeds in paper pots and this method is proving to be most successful.

Each time I replant and area of the vegetable garden I always add some aged manure, either sheep or poultry after I dig it to the depth of the shovel. Sheep manure that is still in its pellet form helps our soil keep and open texture and absorb water more readily than the areas that have not had the sheep manure.
