Anders Celsius (1704 - 1744).
Swedish astronomer, inventor of the centigrade scale for measuring temperature.

Gabriel Daniel Fahrenheit (1686 - 1736).
Prussian physicst and inventor of the mercurial thermometer.

Zero on the Fahrenheit scale represents the temperature produced by the mixing of equal weights of snow and common salt.

Celsius Fahrenheit
Boiling point of water 100° 212°
Freezing point of water 32°
Absolute zero -273.1° -459.6°

Absolute zero is theoretically the lowest possible temperature,
the point at which all molecular motion would cease.

To convert Fahrenheit to Celsius (Centigrade), subtract 32 and divide by 1.8.

To convert Celsius (Centigrade) to Fahrenheit, multiply by 1.8 and add 32.

Kelvin Scale
Absolute zero, -273.15° on the Celsius (Centigrade) scale, is 0 Kelvin.

Thus, Kelvin is equivalent to Celsius plus 273.15.

The freezing point of water, 0°C and 32°F, is 273.15K.

The conversion formula is K = C° + 273.15.

Lord William Thompson Kelvin (1824 - 1907).
Irish born physicist, professor of Natural Philosophy at Glasgow, who advanced the science of thermodynamics and electricity, improved the system of electrical units and invented several scientific instruments: Kelvin scale (absolute scale), scale of absolute temperature in which the zero is the temperature at which a perfect gas would occupy zero volume if it could be cooled indefinitely, with out liquefaction or solidification, this zero corresponds roughly to Kelvin -273°C
