WEEKEND FLYING PROSPECTS: AUGUST 16-17 2008
A
high-pressure system in the Bight and a low in the Tasman Sea are jointly
responsible for producing a cold SW-S airstream over Victoria that will persist
over the next 2-3 days.
Saturday
August 16: Expect a cold, mainly cloudy day with scattered
showers and a maximum temperature of about 12 deg C. Winds will be SW-S around
10-15 kts. Cloudbase is expected to be about 3000 feet.
Sunday
August 17: A cold (12 deg C) partly cloudy day is expected
with isolated showers. Winds should be SW-S around 5-10 kts with cloudbase
about 3000 feet.
The
longer-term outlook indicates potential for Grampians wave towards the middle
of next week, probably Wednesday.
Last
Tuesday (August 12) produced wave to over 26,500 feet early in the day but
cloud and rain associated with a passing cold front restricted access later.
Nevertheless, it was a good flying day for GSC members and visitors from
Bacchus Marsh.
