THIS WEBSITE is one page like a big piece of paper with the writing at the top and pictures below.
You can either move through by scrolling up and down or by clicking on underlined blue words
like TOP which brings you back to the selection table above or picture to see a photograph or pattern to return to the knitting patterns list.
This structure helps the site go faster and be simpler to follow.
BUT it means that all of it prints out at once (maybe 12 pages). If you cut and paste the printout will be simple black text on white.
AND this structure means slower loading the first time you load new updates becuase all of the site will load. Our 233Mhertz computer takes about 7-10 minutes for a new update but 10 seconds until we update again.

DIRECTIONS TO THE FARM SHOP  picture

(Cnr. Schreenans & Bell's Roads) SOUTH WEST OF BALLARAT, VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA

Sturt Street is Ballarat's main street with many beautiful statues in the grassed & treed divider.
It runs East - West from Melbourne to Adelaide via Ararat,Stawell (2 famous historic gold cities) & Horsham.
From Sturt Street just before the Arch of Victory war memorial travel South (a left turn)
for about 5-6 kilometres on Learmonth Street which becomes Wiltshire Lane.
(Care: There is a misleading right turn sign "Learmonth Road" at Gillies Street traffic lights 0ne block before your turn).
Look for the third traffic roundabout & cross the Glenelg Highway (Runs South - connects Ballarat to Hamilton via Linton).
Turn left at the 2nd road, Schreenans Road.
Turn right(downhill) at the T intersection (Webb Rd. left and right Schreenan's Road continued).
Hawthorne Cottage is the last on the right before the end of Schreenan's Road (a T intersection with Bell's Road).
The fence uphill of the house & shop entrance has a sign "Hawthorne Cottage" .
Come in & chat.

NEWS
JULY 2002
We apologise for missing half of Fox Studios Market (Saturday 25 th May) and all of Old Bus Depot market (Sunday 26 th May).

We enjoyed the Australian Sheep and Wool Show, Bendigo Showground, Friday July 19, 20 & 21st.
The new knitting book by June Alexander, Yarn Art in Australia has many great paterns, biographies of the designer - contributors and contact details for yarn supplies.
Sue has 5 colourful clever patterns in this book.
We can help you purchase it (rrp $ 29.95).

AUGUST 2002

David will be at Fox Studios markets in NSW during August (Saturday 17 th August and Sunday 18 th)
See the calendar section of this site.
We have seen some wonderful knitting recently.
One person from Arts Centre Market used 1 hank of daffodil chunky as the centre of a scarf of 7 15 mm stitches wide and knitted a 50 gram hank of 12 ply Viscose and Merino dyed pink and orange to each end.
This scarf is truly stunning with the chunky standing up like a collar and the 12 ply hanging flat or crossed - for a magnificent effect.
A young son of a family friend stayed with us Friday night and Saturday last weekend. During this time he dyed and knitted a scarf in chunky corriedale yarn on 10 and 15 mm needles.
It looks beautiful.
We have made many new customers from the newspaper articles in the Sunday Living magazines in the
Age and Sydney Sunday Herald on 19th May.

We have new stock of English Leicester 8 ply single colours and for hand dyeing.
This is one of the great hand knitting yarns of the world.
For a wonderful review (December 2000) see www.knittersreview.com in which the reviewer says
" I unhesitatingly recommend this yarn for any purpose. It is rare and expensive but buy it when you can. "
We agree with this but think there are situations where some of our other choices are just as good.

MAY - JUNE  2002
David will be at markets & retailers in ACT & NSW during May (Sunday 19th is wool week at Old Bus Depot). See the calendar section of this site.
The idea is an instore demonstration at Stitchn'Time, Mawson on Saturday 18th then Celebration of Wool at Old Bus Depot, Kingston ACT Sunday 19th followed by Fox Studios Farmer's Market, Moore Park Sydney Saturday 25th then back to Old Bus Depot for Sunday 26th.
Our first high fashion retailer supply commenced with the opening of Manvious (the retail outlet of Karming Ng - international fashion designer) Little Lonsdale Street, CBD, Melbourne on Saturday 23rd March.
This is a big achievement for us. Hawthorne Cottage is the only farmer or wool company to have its own garments shown in this year's fashion week
We thank Karming for his confidence in our artistry and concepts.
We welcome new retailers in Leura, Berrima, Mittagong and Yass in NSW and Maldon, Victoria.
We are  included in an article on "Professional Women becoming Knitters" by Sharon Aris in the Sydney Sun Herald, Country Living Section likely to publish in the next few weeks. We thank Marilyn from the Fox Studios Farmer's Market for referring Sharon to us.
David is planning to visit Tasmania this year - He would visit retailers for a week and sell at craft markets consecutive weekends Salamanca Place Hobart (Sat.)and Yorktown Square, Launceston (Sun.).
June Alexander from Weekly Times is editing a new knitting book where we have some great new patterns. The book is printing and proofreading now and due to publish by May.
Our wool sales in Stitches West, San Francisco, USA rose again this year. We are still a very small business but our potential is rising all the time.
Thank you to our wonderful customers and retailers.
