About John John Eagle was born in Melbourne, Australia in 1942. In 1976 he received his Diploma of Fine Art at R.M.I.T. majoring in ceramics and continued to pursue this area of creative endeavour with a dedication and enthusiasm which is evident in the finished work. His strong work ethic encompasses pursuing and maintaining excellence as recognised by the Australian Bicentennial Art-Craft Award for Functional Pottery in 1988. John's work was first exhibited in 'Crafts Victoria' a group exhibition at The National Gallery of Victoria in 1976. John proceeded to exhibit in many solo and group exhibitions throughout Australia. His work is represented in private and public collections in Australia and overseas.

For many years his primary interest focused on quality design and manufacturing of functional pottery in a range of clays and glazes. Some of these earlier pieces have recently found their way into art auctions as collectables.

What is a Studio Potter?
A Studio potter is a potter who uses traditional methods to produce individual hand-crafted objects, rather than working in a factory. The concept, long established in Japan, is now principally applied to late 19th-and 20th-century potters, mainly in Britain, France, USA and Australasia, who influenced by the ideas of the Arts and Crafts Movement, turned their backs on industrialization.

Some of his more notable achievements include:

1993    The International Begonia Award Commission for presentation in the United Kingdom.
1993    The Ballarat City Council Commission to produce work for presentation to Ballarat’s sister city, Inagawa, Japan.
1992    Represented in The Australia Council Shop at Expo ‘92, Seville, Spain.
1988    Winner of the National Australian Bicentennial Art-craft Award for Functional Pottery.
