An Introduction to "Dja Willam"

Tipis stand majestically amidst the towering 200 year-old trees. The geometry of man's timeless creations complementing rather than destroying the natural setting. But this is not where the Buffalo roam. This is Daylesford in Victoria's Spa Country, where Don O'Connor and Sue Ewart have brought the wisdom of the Native American people home to roost alongside the vibrations of the formerly resident native Australians.

Their 40 acre property is deceptively large thanks to a winding permanent creek boundary and a spur in the Wombat Forest. Sue and Don are fitting guardians of the land. The elders of the Dja Dja Warung tribe whose families once had free range on the site are delighted that the couple honour the land and that they have asked permission for a suitable Koori title, acknowledging the vibrations of the native language and dialect. "Dja Willam" is born, translated it means "earth nest" and is a most appropriate title.

Here on Dja Willam Don and Sue host tipi camping for the purpose of 'providing the space for people to unwind, relax, and connect with mother earth and the nature spirits; to heal and to grow in the ways of simple wisdom, earth centredness, and native spirituality'. Camping is in a bush setting with no electricity - away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Mobile phones can only pick up reception 1km from the tipis (up in Sue and Don's top paddock). The carpark is a short walk to the tipis - so you really are in nature, and not surrounded by man made machines.
