The written word is one of the most intimate sources of enjoyment,information, and enlightenment. A book, magazine or newspaper can be bought or borrowed and taken away to be read and absorbed at our leasure..

People will seek out "gay" writing for many reasons.

• It may simply be a "genre" that is familair to them and in which they maintain an ongoing interest.
• Family or friends, wishing to undertsand a gay or lesbian, son or daughter, brother or sister may find it easier to seek answers to what might otherwise seem difficult questions.
• for others, writing that deals with the many issues that confront gays and lesbians, can be reassuring, a reminder that you are not alone.

Clearly there are many writers who are or have been known to be homosexual or bi-sexual, not all have dealt with "gay or lesbian" issues in their body of work.
