Rainbow Flag

Designed at first as a flag of eight stripes by Gilbert Baker as a community symbol. The colours were said to represent sexuality, life, healing sun, nature, art, harmony and spirit.

The number colours where reduced to facilitate commercial production.

In 1979 the 6 stripe Rainbow Flag became a symbol of the Gay community's strength and solidarity following the death of Harvey Milk.
